How is my payment held?
When a buyer pays, the funds are held with Moolre, a Bank of Ghana licensed payment provider, and are not released to the seller until the buyer confirms they've received the item and the 1-hour reporting window has passed. Sellers know a real payment is committed before they hand anything over; buyers aren't sending cash into a chat with no recourse.
Is GrabAm an escrow service?
It works the way most people mean by escrow: the buyer pays first, the money is held, and the seller is paid only after the buyer confirms they have the item and the 1-hour reporting window passes. Strictly, GrabAm is not a licensed escrow service and there is no separate escrow agreement. Payments are collected through Moolre, a Bank of Ghana licensed payment provider, and held in GrabAm's Moolre account until the order is settled. If something is wrong, you open a dispute and the money stays held while it's reviewed.
Do I have to be a student?
No. GrabAm started as a campus marketplace and is now open to the general public across Ghana. University tags stay as an optional filter, and students get a lower buyer fee.
Can I negotiate the price?
Yes, that's the point. Buyers send an offer and sellers can accept, decline or counter, all inside the in-app chat. Counter-offer rounds are capped at five so negotiations end somewhere.
How and when do sellers get paid?
Once the buyer confirms delivery and the 1-hour reporting window passes, the payment is released directly to the seller's mobile money account. Sellers pay no commission; the platform fee is on the buyer's side.
Do I need to install anything?
No. GrabAm runs in your browser at app.grabam.com. No app store, no download.
Is there a price limit?
Yes, while GrabAm is in beta listings cap at GHS 5,000, a deliberate ceiling while payments, auctions and disputes are proven out. Payment is by MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash or AT Money; GhQR isn't live yet. GrabAm doesn't deliver: buyer and seller arrange pickup or delivery in the app.
How does GrabAm Trade work?
GrabAm Trade is barter trade for Ghana: you swap your items for other people's items, with no money involved and no fees. Post something you'd swap and say what you want in return; people offer their own items, 1 to 5 a side. Once an offer is accepted you agree a meet-up in chat and swap in person, and it completes when both of you confirm. Swaps happen in person, so payment holding and buyer protection don't apply to Trade. It uses your normal GrabAm login.
