Buy and sell at University of Ghana, Legon

A marketplace for Legon students and everyone around campus: textbooks, phones, laptops, room items and more, with your MoMo held until you have the item.

Every semester at Legon, the same things change hands: textbooks for core courses, phones and laptops, fans, kettles and mini fridges for hall rooms. Most of it happens on WhatsApp, where you pay a stranger and hope. GrabAm does the same thing with your payment held until you actually have the item.

What students trade around Legon

  • Course books and materials from students who've finished the course.
  • Phones, laptops and accessories: chargers, earbuds, power banks.
  • Hall and hostel items: fans, kettles, irons, extension boards, mini fridges, mattresses.
  • Clothes, shoes and bags, including things for dinners, hall week and graduation.
  • Services from other students, like hair, braiding, printing and repairs.

How it works for Legon students

  1. Find it on GrabAm and filter to the University of Ghana campus or your area.
  2. Bargain in the chat, then pay through the app with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash or AT Money.
  3. Collect it at the pickup time you choose, and check it before you confirm.
  4. The seller is paid after you confirm you have it.

If the seller never hands it over, or it isn't what was listed, you report it in the app and the money doesn't go to them. Details are in our guide to buying safely.

Selling at the end of the semester?

Moving out of hall is the easiest time to clear what you don't want to carry home. List early, before everyone else does, and price to sell: the next set of students will be looking for exactly those things when they arrive. Our guide to selling used items covers pricing and photos, and selling on GrabAm costs you nothing.

Meeting on campus

  • Meet somewhere busy and public in daylight: a main gate, a hall's porters' lodge, a busy junction.
  • Avoid going into a room in a hall or hostel to collect something from someone you don't know.
  • Check the item before you confirm in the app. Once you confirm, the seller is paid.

Not at Legon?

GrabAm works across Ghana, for students and non-students. Filter by your own campus, city or area in the app.
